For Diwali this year we had two comedies Golmaal 2 and Action Replayy on display. One of them had to, and did, tank.
It therefore comes as no surprise to know that the next battle of the comedies between Yashraj Films' Band Baaja Baaraat featuring Anushka Sharma with newbie Ranvir Singh and Anees Bazmee's star-studded comedy No Problem just might be stymied before its too late. Yashraj, however are unwilling to budge. They consider the second week of December lucky for their films. Anees Bazmee on the other hand, doesn't believe in luck.
Says the hyper-active director (currently working round-the-clock shooting his film Ready in the daytime and editing No Problem in the night), "I don't believe in lucky dates. But I do believe in commitments. We had decided to release No Problem on 10 December long ago. I have three releases next year (Thank You, It's My Life and Ready). So I needed to get No Problem out of the way this year. We worked at breakneck speed to finish No Problem and announced our release date months ago. It was only later that I heard Band Baaja Baaraat is coming on the same date." Anees admits he isn't happy with the clash. "It's never advisable to bring two big films on the same day. If anyone, then they should move because we locked in the date first. But I think Yashraj is superstitious about the second week of December because their Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi released during the same week in 2008 (with the same heroine) and was a hit."
Anees says he's beyond luck factors. "When my producer Vipul Shah decided to add an extra n in 'king' for Singh Is Kinng I told him please add one more 'n' if it helps the box-office. It's the product that matters. I know we've made a fabulously funny film in No Problem. I am sure Band Baaja Baaraat is also a terrific film. If a clash is not avoidable then I'll pray for both films."
Will Yashraj blink first?
When contacted Yashraj's official spokesperson said, "No there is no postponement. Band Baaja Baaraat is coming with all the baaraati's (sic.) on 10th Dec 2010. I am sure there is space for both of us."
When it comes to online, Bollywood beauties seems to overshadow politics and cricket, with heart throb Katrina Kaif emerging as the most popular news maker this year, according to a popular search engine. In these times of political scams and cricket controversies, Bollywood continues to remain the online flavour, with cine star Katrina Kaif topping the chart of most popular internet search this year.
Surpassing news search related to politics, current affairs, cricket and finance, Kaif has been named “Newsmaker of the Year” for both “professional and personal reasons”. Among the most popular online, cricket maestro Sachin Tendulkar — who broke many records this year — is next only to Kaif.
The search engine noted that Kaif`s acclaimed performance in the film `Rajneeti`, a mystery stomach ailment and break-up with long time beau Salman Khan, among others, made her a popular news maker. According to the leading portal, online activities this year was dominated by the public`s transfixion with a fair share of controversies and comebacks, triumphs and disasters, clashes of personalities and clashes of interests.
Apart from Bollywood and cricket - that was dominated by the Indian Premier League - political controversies, CWG and sex scandals too were most searched for. Right from Shashi Tharoor losing his Minister job to teams being barred from the tournament, IPL created much buzz online.

ShahRukh Khan and Salman Khan Friend Color Tv Kareena Kapoor and Ajay Devgun to enter the Bigg Boss house. After The Great Khali’s grand entry in the Salman Khan anchored show, now it’s the turn of the sexy saucy Kareena Kapoor to take a trip of the house. And she would be accompanied by the dusky Ajay Devgun. However, they are not to spend a night or a week in that camera-filled house.
Rather, they would be there to promote their upcoming Diwali flick ‘Golmaal 3’. The 3rd edition of the comic caper releases this Diwali on 5th November and hence, as a part of promotion strategy, the Golmaal team would be paying a visit to the controversially renowned house.
So, this Diwali, expect to see the likes of Ajay, Kareena, the mute Tusshar Kapoor, the feisty Shreyas Talpade, circuit Arshad Warsi and Kunal Khemu inside the house in a special episode.
And they won’t be the only one benefitting from such an arrangement. Even the Bigg Boss producers shall feel their pockets heavier as the Bollywood stars’ presence would, certainly, grab more eyeballs and add to the TRPs. Bigg Boss is already feeling the discomforting presence of Amitabh Bachchan’s KBC that airs at the same time on a different channel.

The Most watched star show on TV. The TRPs or Television Rating Points for the big ticket shows are in. So did Amitabh Bachchan beat Salman Khan on the small screen, or did Rakhi Sawant have the last laugh?
We take a look at the performances of Bigg Boss 4, Kaun Banega Crorepati 4, MasterChef India, Rakhi Ka Insaf and the recently-concluded Khatron Ke Khiladi on their opening nights.
Andar maja toh baahar majedaar promised the enfant terrible of Bollywood. Salman Khan had swapped channels from Sony Entertainment Television to Colors.
He was also taking over from Amitabh ‘pop philosopher’ Bachchan claiming to bring his own candid, saucy, sparkling personality to the murky goings-on inside the Bigg Boss House. And he lived up to the expectations as he welcomed the 14 guests in his inimitable bindaas style, bringing the house down with his antics.
While the daily episodes have been a let-down, hardly any maja, ‘bhai’s’ weekend visits are proving to be quite a riot. Majedaar? Absolutely!

Story: Three college students disappear in a remote village dominated by caste politics. An army officer, Ajay Devgan, and a CBI officer, Akshaye Khanna, are sent to investigate the high profile case which has become a burning national issue. They discover it's a case of honour killing but must lock horns with the local opposition -- corrupt cops, goons and netas -- before they can hope for closure.
Movie Review: Priyadarshan takes a break from his staple diet of comedies and moves to serious territory with Aakrosh. Now this isn't an alien zone for the filmmaker who has already proved his forte with tackling themes of gravitas in films like Gardish, Virasat, Kala Paani and his National Award winner, Kanjeevaram. In Aakrosh, he goes topical with his attempts to unveil the horror of the recent spate of honour killings, which have relentlessly made headlines. The disappearance of the three college boys in the small hamlet is linked with a love affair that goes sour due to the insurmountable caste barriers that govern social life in this not-so-distant terrain. What follows is a deafening culture of silence and a brutal cover up where anybody who dares to speak up is summarily done away with by the caretakers: the cops, headed by Paresh Rawal, the local ruffians and the politicians.
The film works primarily because it is paced like a high momentum thriller. Both the investigating officers, Ajay Devgan and Akshaye Khanna, spend most of the screen time chasing leads, witnesses and crooks, albeit in different styles. While Akshaye is a level-headed CBI officer who prefers to play mind games, Ajay is the hot-headed, testosterone-driven action man who prefers to use his fists and his feet to get things going. The high point of the film are the chase and fight sequences, reminiscent of some hard-balled Hollywood action cuts. The duo complements each other well and makes a gritty pair of investigators on screen. Add to this, a fine act by Paresh Rawal as the unabashedly corrupt cop and you have a testy triumvirate that holds the film together engrossingly. For romance, there is the short and sweet Ajay-Bipasha track that pops in as dramatic relief. Bipasha actually doesn't have much to do and does seem to be miscast as the much-abused, bruised and battered wife of Paresh Rawal. But Aakrosh is essentially an all-guys act, with Ajay, Akshaye and Paresh providing enough punch to keep the drama racy, riveting and topical too.
Go for some serious stuff. The hot-headed boys of Aakrosh don't let you down.
